About Shahruh Bridge

The bridge located on the medieval road route between Kayseri and Sivas and on Kızılırmak is a kargir historical water structure extending in the east-west direction; its length is 160 meters and its width is 4.70 meters. Currently, it consists of eight reviews; The first seven eyes are pointed arches from the west and the last eye in the east is round arched. The span of the largest water arch exceeding 12 meters. There are triangular prismatic bodies and pyramidal curves in the seven arch feet of the bridge's facade. The heel of the dingals of the arch feet in the downstream direction have a triangular or polygonal body and a pyramidal crown. Properly cut and rough cut stones were used in the construction of the bridge; It is noteworthy that in some nests on the tempan walls, wooden beams were also used.

There is no doubt that the depictions of the lion and grape embroidered as a relief on a framed stone on the bridge front and west end of the bridge, and the dates of Hijri 1327-1329, were apparently carried out at the beginning of the 20th century; Obviously, the repair that started in 1911/12 was completed in 1913/14 due to a destruction found on the bridge. It is not clear whether this repair was a local intervention limited to the last arch eye on the west of the bridge. On the other hand, it can be claimed that the dragon-shaped garland, which is located on the rock with the profile and on the profiled stone railing on which the bridge railing sits, was added to the place where it was located during the same repair. The bridge has no construction inscriptions; It was said to have been transported from Şarkışla to Sivas Gök Madrasa Museum, one of which was probably in the first half of the 13th century by Ertokuş, one of the Emirs of the Seljuk Sultan Alâeddîn Keykubad, and the other in 1538/39 by the son of Shahruh Bey, one of the Zülkâdiroğulları. The relation of two separate bridge inscriptions built with Şahruh Bridge in Sarıoğlan can never be established.
