Kayseri Atatürk Museum
About Kayseri Atatürk Museum
Imamzade Raşid Ağa Mansion was one of the most important examples of recent civilizations and Kayseri houses as well as being a host for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's first visit to Kayseri (19 December 1919). It is located in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood.
House is an old Turkish house belonging to the Late Ottoman Period. It was registered as Immovable Cultural Existence in 1976 and it was expropriated by the Ministry of Culture in 1978. Then the mansion was restored and opened in 1983 as “Atatürk House”. On December 19, 1988, the second floor of the building was arranged again and started to serve as “Atatürk Museum”. On the first floor there are the administrative offices and the exhibition hall of the Gallery Directorate of the Ministry of Culture.
The building, which is one of the few houses that can survive today from many Kayseri houses built with the same materials and workmanship, is a civil architecture structure with interesting architectural features, handcrafted and influenced by local characteristics. It is one of the last examples of environmental tradition since the Middle Ages.
