About Tomarza
The history of the District is the same as Kayseri, the City Center. Apart from Kayseri, it is the first time to be found in the book "Erciyes Mountain in the 16th century" by a western writer named "Jennigs" on behalf of Tomarza. In this work, the district is mentioned as a village. After the Manzikert Victory of Alpaslan in 1071, until the conquest of Anatolia, the region remained under the rule of the Cappadocians, Alexander the Great, the Macedonian Empire and the Romans respectively. After the Manzikert Victory, Uyghur Turks and Avşar Turks from Iran settled in the region. It is seen that the Turkish population of the immigrant in the district increased during the 1877-1878 Ottoman Russian War, especially known as the "93 War". Many Turkish families fleeing the Russian occupation settled in the district center and the surrounding villages. The settlement traces in our district coincide with the Young Hittites period. Central Mosque, Tomarza Church, Gülbaba Tomb, Halil Dede Tomb in İncili Village and rock tombs in Kömür Village are important works of our district.
