About Ağırnas
Ağırnas Village is located on the eastern ridge of Koramaz Valley. The valley continues at the end of the village, curving southwards. The oldest houses of Ağırnas Village are in this front row facing the valley and among these houses is the house of Mimar Sinan, who was born here in 1489. Although the oldest buildings existing in Ağırnas Village are dated to the 18th and 19th centuries, the establishment date of the village is unknown. Ağırnas Town, the birthplace of Mimar Sinan, the creator of hundreds of works of art that fascinates the viewer, also keeps the traces that shed light on Kayseri's history. The underground city, 22 kilometers from Kayseri, houses, tombs and churches carved into the rocks are among these traces. There are traces that the Christian underground city was settled by the Christians between the first and the eighth centuries. The houses where Mimar Sinan was born and where the gutters he made to bring water to his village in his youth ended, can also be seen in Ağırnas. Agias and Anagari churches, Ağırnas Prokopis Church is dated 1857.
